U.S. Navy Gives New Meaning to the Words “Speed Boat”Dan Doyle
The USS Gonzalez (DDG-66), an Arliegh Burke-class destroyer, is known for its speed and maneuverability. Named after Sergeant Alfredo Cantu Gonzalez, who fought in the Vietnam War and received the Medal of Honor. Shipbuilders laid the USS Gonzalez’ keel down on Feb. 3, 1994, and the ship was christened nearly a year later on Feb. 18, 1995.
This video was taken off the East Coast off of Norfolk, VA in 2007.
It is clear the skipper and crew of the USS Gonzalez were having some fun making this video. Some of the crew are even manning the rail as the ship goes into this high speed “evasive action” maneuver. It is truly impressive to see a ship of this size being so agile and quick.
