Veterans Writing Project Opens New Opportunities For Talented Vets

The Veterans Writing Project — developed by the Writers Guild Foundation — is a free program that pairs U.S. military veterans and active service members with professional screenwriters who teach writing skills during one weekend-long retreat and a series of regular meetings over the course of the next year.

According to Writers Guild Foundation communications director Kevin Ott, the service helps veterans with unique experiences “improve their skills so they can get out there and tell their stories in a concrete way.”

The Veterans Writing Project is open to veterans and active military personnel from all five branches and of all ages. The program does give preference to applicants who have had limited access to mentorship or resources for their writing — after all, it is learning experience set up to help veterans build their writing skills.
