Reliable child care is critical to the health of military families — the nation’s fighting forces can’t be ready to go and protect our country if the home front isn’t squared away. Unfortunately, the state of child care services for military members hasn’t always been great. Several decades ago, it was dismal and dire, which led to the U.S. government allocating more spending to the military child care system. Now, it’s the gold standard of the industry. Here are some of the reasons why child care is so important to military families.

8. There is a significant need

According to its 2015 demographic profile of the military community, the U.S. Department of Defense reported 1.7 million active duty family members, of which over 1 million were children. Those numbers equated to over 40 percent of active duty military members with kids. Of those children, 42 percent were 5 years of age or younger.

7. Troops Have To Be Focused At All Times

The military requires ultimate focus. Service members can’t afford to be distracted from their training, as the nature of their job can often present them with life-or-death situations. Focusing on the task at hand is crucial for the safety and well-being of every individual service member, their team, and ultimately, the nation. Dependable child care helps service members keep their focus where it needs to be: on the job.
